Recent News » ACE Horse Sense for People Workshop Published 08/19/2008    Term 3 in the ACE Byron Shire progamme is well under way with the completion of another very successful Horse Sense for People course.  The last session was yesterday - Monday the 18th of August, culminating with everyone excitedly anticipating how putting what they had learned in the previous sessions together in the games set for the day.

The results everyone got were perfect for where they were in that moment in time.  The question became;  What needs to happen first when things don't work out as you had hoped?

Everyone discovered that connection to the horse and themselves was the basis for everything.  When the game wasn't working it became imperative to restore the connection between horse and human to effectively play the games. Participants then put into practice their newly learned skills of how to restore the connection from previous sessions.   When the connection was strong the games became effortless and a beautiful harmony could be seen between horse and human.  Both parties were also having heaps of fun!

For me I learned so much about how we can get our boundaries confused with dominance/submissive thoughts and body language.  When dominant or submissive thoughts and gestures were in action a sense of space between horse and human was lost creating struggle and lots of difficulty.  When participants were able to create boundaries and hold that with a strong sense of trust then a soft spaciousness between horse and human was very natural creating a willingness between both parties to help each other out.

Well done everyone, and thanks for supporting the ACE Byron Shire Community College!
Here are some comments from participants:

'A wonderful experience and enlightening.  What I liked most about the class to was to learn to become more aware of boundaries and contact.   Gayle

A very patient, skilled teacher in a nice environment.  I liked how to create trust in the horse and myself and connecting to an animal.  Dorothea

» How To Position Yourself for Perfect Communication
By Louise Kropach | Published 08/20/2007 | Featured Articles | Rating:

In a session with a client a couple of months ago, my client was experiencing difficulty playing certain games with her horse.  The horse was becoming more and more anxious and worried and my client was very unsure how to handle the situation or what had caused it in the first place.  As an outsider looking on at the two of them it was apparent that my clients positioning when asking for something was just a little bit off and this was just enough to make the horse uncomfortable about what was being asked of him.

» What is Horsemanship
By Louise Kropach | Published 12/12/2007 | Featured Articles | Unrated
Natural Horsemanship or training is based on our willingness to accept responsiblity for how we -
  1. Communicate to our horses
  2.  Lead our horses
  3.  Show that we care and love our horses

To understand our horses fully requires study and lots of contemplation in the subject as an Art.

When we improve our understanding of the equine species and how to get the most out of our horses through collaboration not force we give to these majestic creatures the gift of ourselves as the best people and trainers we can be.
